Guests on a forest trail
Local knowledge · Thoughtful journeys

Know the forest.
Respect the wild.

Leuser Trek helps you plan rainforest journeys from Bukit Lawang with licensed local guides and clear expectations for your time on the trail.

Our approach

A personal way into Leuser.

Every group brings different interests and walking expectations. We start with a conversation about your available time, fitness, preferred pace and camping needs, then confirm a suitable trekking plan.

For us, a premium journey means care in the arrangements: a clear route outline, guide availability confirmed beforehand, thoughtful preparation and an itemised proposal when you add private arrangements, transport or accommodation.

It also means honesty. Rainforest trails can be steep and muddy. Camping is basic. Weather can change the plan. Wildlife is free to move, so encounters are never guaranteed.

Connected to Bukit Lawang

We can help arrange a stay at Back to Nature Ecotourism before or after trekking. The remote riverside lodge offers a quieter base reached on foot from the village. Accommodation and lodge activities are separate from national park trekking.

Wildlife comes first

Observe, don’t interfere

Keep a respectful distance. Never feed, touch, chase or approach animals. Follow your guide and let wildlife choose its own movement.

Leave the forest as it is

Carry your rubbish out, leave plants in place, and keep noise low. Your guide’s instructions take priority on the trail.

Speak up before the trek

Tell us if you feel unwell or have needs that affect your trek. Discuss these with the team before entering the forest.

Why the place matters

Part of Sumatra’s rainforest heritage.

Gunung Leuser National Park forms part of UNESCO’s Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra, alongside Kerinci Seblat and Bukit Barisan Selatan national parks. Its significance extends far beyond any single trek or wildlife photograph.

We use that context to encourage respectful travel. It is not a promise that visitors will see rare species on a Bukit Lawang route, and it does not imply UNESCO certification of our operation.
